چکیده

Objects: Surgical site infection (SSI) remains a major morbidity in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. This study evaluated the efficacy of subcutaneous suction drainage decreasing risk SSI sternal wound off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB). Materials and methods: We invested 106 patients, including 25 women (mean age 70.3 ± 9.6 years old), who underwent OPCAB. Patients were categorized into those with (S group, n = 73) without (N 33), their data analyzed. Results: Compared N S group had lower incidence vs. S: 9.1% 0.0%, p 0.029) significantly shorter hospitalization duration 23.2 10.5 16.6 5.7 days, < 0.001). No bacteria isolated from SSI. treated completely cured continuous negative-pressure therapy. Conclusions: Recent approaches to prevention that include system can result better outcomes by reducing after

Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and most developed countries. The majority of deaths are due to coronary artery disease. It is estimated that 419,000 coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures were performed in the United States in 2009 for the surgical treatment of coronary artery disease. Off-pump CABG (without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass...

Evaluating off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

Evaluating Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting To the Editor: We read with interest the article by Sedrakyan et al.1 The authors found that off-pump surgery was associated with a reduced risk of stroke, atrial fibrillation and surgical wound infections as compared with on-pump. If the results were presented as events, the reductions were translated into 10 fewer patients with stroke, 80 wi...

Skeletonized gastroepiploic artery for off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

BACKGROUND Skeletonized arterial grafting may reduce the risk of graft spasm and may improve graft patency. Previously we reported a pilot study of skeletonized gastroepiploic artery (GEA) grafting with favorable results. Skeletonized GEA harvesting with an ultrasonic scalpel has now become our routine procedure. In this report, we compare the early clinical outcomes of skeletonized versus pedi...

On-pump versus off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal (GI) complications following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), although infrequent, are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It has been suggested that systemic inflammatory response plays an important role in these complications. Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is well known to cause increased systemic inflammation, and therefore it has been propo...

On-Pump and Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Surgery for coronary artery disease is known as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). It was one of the landmark operations in the history of cardiac surgery that rescued millions of people afflicted by coronary artery disease. It was first performed by Kolesov,1 was popularized by Favaloro,2 and is still the leading heart operation performed today. Current reasons for performing CABG are the...
